Activities

Various activities have been developped in order to achieve the objectives of this project. These activities include :

- the creation and animation of a bilingual (French-English) news portal dedicated to ICT and media issues, on the one hand, and to the innovative use of ICTs by communities, on the second hand;

- the launch of 5 thematic call for articles including the organisation of an annual contest in order to favour the production of articles and capacity building on ICTs;

- the organisation of a regional capacity building workshop on media and ICT issues in West Africa. More information on this workshop

- the production of a publication which will contents best productions from journalists and lesson learned from the project.

Call for articles

Thematic call for articles will be launched every two months; five calls will be launched by the end of the project. Best articles will be selected and granted USD 200 each; these articles will be promoted on the website and through various means.

A specific call for article will take the form of the edition of the contest «PIWA Information Society Prize » in 2008.

The web portal

This portal builds on the ICTs and media projects implemented by PIWA and supported by the Fonds Francophone des Inforoutes (FFI) of the Organisation Internatioanle de la Francophonie (OIF) and the International Development Research Center (IDRC). It also serves as a virtual training space for the community of journalists collaborating on the portal; it will include and/or provides links to:

- stories written by journalists on these issues,

- calendar of events of interest to journalists,

- tutorials, news and other resourceful information/documents to strengthen media practitioners capacities;

- etc.
