FonTV fun for Ghana

Black Star Television mobile operator GT-OneTouch, owned by national PTO Ghana Telecom, have launched what they claim is Africa’s first mobile phone-enabled television content viewing service, FonTv.

The service will use Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) technology developed in South Korea, to deliver TV broadcasts to T-DMB enabled handsets, laptops and other digital receivers, Black Star said. Mr D H Kim, Managing Director of Black Star TV, said the pair’s Ghanaian collaboration would help GT-OneTouch and Black Star penetrate the domestic market, with a ‘valuable’ value added service. The cellco’s chairman, Mr Yoofi Grant, said the company would provide two months’ free subscription for the first 1,000 people to purchase the product.
