Event Details :

This course is designed to strengthen the skills of professional journalists reporting on the causes and effects of migration. It will address representation of migration issues in both broadcast and new media, and participants will be actively involved in creating an internet site focused on the subject of migration.

The course will focus on telling the stories of both refugees and voluntary migrants. The scope will be global, and will cover representation of stories of both success and failure. Participants will discuss how these representations influence both public opinion and expectations.

Participants will concentrate on either radio or television, but there will be significant crossover and interaction between the two groups. All participants will be exposed to the following topics :

- knowledge and practice of broadcast news and current affairs

- multi-skilling in broadcast news and current affairs

- introduction to and use of digital technology and new media in broadcast journalism

- the (potential) impact of new media and new technologies on broadcast journalism

Registration Details :

Anyone working in or for the media, who can write and speak English, may apply. Preference, however, is given to applicants from developing countries, and people applying from one of these listed countries may apply for a Netherlands Fellowship Programme (for more information on this fellowship grant : http://www.rnw.nl/cgi/?app=rntc&pag... to cover the cost of the programme.
