Online training course focuses on OSS for Africa

A new e-learning curriculum aimed at African IT businesses includes thorough coverage of open source software such as Ubuntu Linux, IT security and e-business applications.

The online training course, called Open source & more IT for African Business, was created by Information Technology in African Business (it_pgrkc_ab) and backed by the funds from the German federal ministry for economic co-operation and development.

The training materials cover six main areas: E-business applications and architecture; IT security; open source IT; web publishing; e-learning; and Zope and collaborative learning.

“The focus is on free and open source software (FOSS) as a key technology to drive innovation, add local value and create sustainable and affordable ICT-solutions,” the developers said in an announcement yesterday.

The courses are organised as online modules for self-study and include lessons, tests and selected references. They provide an overview of and introduction to important concepts from intermediate to advanced level.

The course materials can be found at CLE.

The series of e-learning courses are released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike licence.
